🌐 The end of an era Insider version of Skype for Android has a newly added text string that states «Starting in May 2025, Skype will no longer be available». Back in 2017-2018 Discord pretty much superseded Skype. I was actively using Skype until my friends started swiftly moving to Discord, which in turn pushed me to switch. We used to chat there all the time with happywin98, Daniel Myslivets and others from our former friend group. Out of ~10 people only two of us remained to this day. This is a tale from about 10 years ago (2016), and it's baffling to realize some of my fans weren't even born back then. We used to have so much fun on that platform. We're getting older, and the «back in my day» moments are actually starting to occur. Skype was our lobby before Discord. Rest in peace.

Tech content creators and news sites have recently dug into an Insider build of Skype’s files, to find a string of text which reads as follows:

“Starting in May 2025, Skype will no longer be available. By logging into Microsoft Teams with your Skype account, your chats and contacts will appear in the app so you can pick up where you left off. Alternatively, you can export your Skype data”

This message comes as no surprise to those who saw the writing on the walls before this, especially since people had already jumped over to other platforms, such as Zoom, Discord, and even Microsoft’s own-brand Microsoft Teams.

I myself have fond memories of contacting friends and family with Skype, especially during the pandemic before I got Zoom.

Farewell, Skype. You will always live on in the hearts and minds of those that used it.

2003 - 2025

Skype was over when they made it an Electron app back in 2016 or so. This is merely the funeral.

It seems that they are also doing the same to their Outlook app

Serves it right! :D

Exactly, even moreso that Microsoft butchered it
