Why did they use such an obscene word for this?

“Ploopy”? I would say it’s weird (for headphones) and maybe non-descriptive. How is it “obscene”?

In the book it’s a word the little brother came up with, and if anyone said it to them they’d cry. Their mom banned it so in their house it was on the same level as swearing.
