Yep, I’m probably not going to wait very long before buying it. I got the first one not long after release and I’ve been looking forward to the sequel ever since! Some of the advanced reviewers are even saying it plays reasonably well on the Steam Deck!

By the way, the 100% is sometimes frustrating but a great feeling when you get there! It was the first (and only) game I ever took the time to do that with.

It’s definitely not a game for everyone, but it’s really great for the people that like it. I’ve been trying to stay spoiler free as much as I can, but the gameplay videos I’ve seen look to be just as good or a little better than the first. I’m waiting to see what people say about after it releases though!

Hopefully they’ll come up with something good! I guess I’m just looking at the sheer scale of the game world (200k square miles, 2.5 times the size of Daggerfall!) and wondering how it’ll turn out. It seems they have some impressive procedural generation technology up their sleeves. As you mentioned, the early access version will be “only” 50k square miles, so it should be a easier goal to hit! I’m definitely looking forward to watching as things progress.

Oh definitely, most game worlds are really compressed. The idea of a huge game world is very tempting to them, but they don’t want to commit. For those cases I think aiming for a small realistically scaled world would be a better option. I’ve spent several hundred hours on Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s 6 square mile map because it’s such a real feeling world. I’m sure I would enjoy it even more if they could keep the same quality level over a much bigger map though!

I tend to dip in and out here and there, it’s pretty fun when I’m in the mood for it. There’s definitely a load of singleplayer content! I wish there was less filler, but that’s what comes with the type of game.

Wheel + pedals when I’m using my main rig, and controller when I’m playing on my Steam Deck or one of my laptops.

Yeah, that’s probably best. I think it has the possibility to be good, although I think the scope might be a bit too big! We’ll see.

That’s very similar to my thoughts on the series too. My favorite is Morrowind, but I’ve played a bit of all of them from Daggerfall up to ESO. I enjoy the feeling that the game is doing it’s own thing when I’m not looking! There aren’t many big games that do that anymore.

I’m hoping that The Wayward Realms is decent as well, I did end up backing it. (Sorry patient gamers!) I don’t have high hopes for The Elder Scrolls 6 if/when it comes out, so hopefully they can take up the mantle of the earlier games.

I’ve been playing some American and Euro Truck Simulator recently, and I played a little bit of Elder Scrolls Online. I really hope that when ESO inevitably ends there is a way to play it offline. I basically play it as a single player game, and it would be sad to lose all of those quests!

I really like the game for a lot of the reasons you mention! I don’t like most fantasy games, so it was really nice to finally find a immersive sword based RPG that I could really enjoy. I’ve dumped so many hours into it since it came out, and I managed to finally 100% the achievements recently! I’m really looking forward to the sequel.

If you’re on PC it’s fairly easy to install a unlimited save mod, that might be a nice QOL option for you.

If you’re using a console, Savior Schnapps can be fairly easy to brew with a bit of practice. Still not a perfect option for what you’re talking about, but saving every hour or so can be a big timesaver.

Another convert! Once the game mechanics clicked with me it’s been the most immersed I ever remember being in a game.

I had been talking with someone else on here about trying EVE in that playstyle a while back! I never tried it, but it always sounded interesting. Logistics sounds like it could be an interesting thing to try in Foxhole, I may need to give it a go.

Okay, thanks for the information! I appreciate the offer, I’ll have to keep that in mind if I decide to get it. I think the logistics end of the game could be a lot of fun.

I generally just don’t play a lot of online games anymore. I have a job where I have to deal with people all day, so the last thing I want to do is go home and deal with angry people while I’m trying to relax!

I do play some Elder Scrolls Online and Star Trek Online, but I primarily do single player content. The normal extent of my interaction with human players is to help them if they need help, or to thank them if they help me.

I keep looking at Foxhole, but I’ve never tried it yet. Is the non combat segment of the game pretty chill overall? I’m not really a big fan of competitive MMOs, but the behind the scenes aspect does interest me. I hear about a decent amount of positivity in the playerbase, but I’ve definitely heard negativity about the recent state of the game.

I’m amazed by how well many games run on the Deck. You obviously can’t have every graphic setting cranked, but it’s still pretty good.

I’m not sure of the reasons why other people don’t like the games, but for me it’s primarily just not being pulled into the story and world. So far I’ve tried Horizon: Zero Dawn, Spiderman Remastered, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves, and God of War, and the only one I actually finished and liked was Uncharted. Horizon I liked the gameplay and world fairly well, but the story was a bit boring. The others I put a number of hours into and quit because I wasn’t enjoying myself. I didn’t have super high expectations of any of them, so I don’t think it’s that. They may just not be my kind of game anymore, although I do like some games that are somewhat similar.

Oh yes, those are a lot of fun! It does add a lot to the game. Just a warning, I’ve found them to be a bit buggy at times, so I would recommend doing a save before taking one. They may have fixed it since I took one though.

I would have a problem with a game that sells premium bullets, because as I said in my previous comment, it gives an actual gameplay advantage when playing against other players. Which means it’s what I would call pay to win, and means I wouldn’t play it. To this point I’ve played several free to play games fairly extensively, but never spent a cent on them.

You have a different definition of pay to win than the other poster and I do, and while I don’t agree with it, that’s fine. My primary purpose for responding to your comment was to try to explain what they were referring to. I’m not trying to start a big argument over a game that I don’t even play, so I won’t be going any further with this.

That’ll bring you quite a few hours of enjoyment I’m sure! I’ve got a lot of hours into both of those games.

You can pay to get things done more quickly, but you don’t have to pay to win. It just takes more time. From what I hear from players of the game, there’s no actual gameplay advantages locked behind a paywall, only cosmetic items. They obviously want you to pay to proceed faster, but it doesn’t appear to be like some games that make free players use lower tier weapons and items. You can earn all gameplay items through grinding it out and never need to spend any money.

You’ve got a nice variety of games to try there! Trombone Champ was pretty huge for a while there, but I had pretty much forgotten about it. Maybe I’ll grab it just for the laughs.

I never got into Fallout either, although I only ever tried 4. I did have someone mention that I should try the earlier games as apparently the tone of them is different. It’s sometimes hard to overcome first impressions though! It’s great that the show gave you the boost to get hooked!

That’s really what is holding me back from getting it. The idea sounds really interesting, I’m just worried that I won’t enjoy the actual gameplay. I’ve had it in my cart a couple of times during sales but I never end up getting it.

What you said about micromanaging things does help. I don’t mind a little micromanagement in games like Age of Empires or Civilization, but if you get too much of it happening I tend to get a bit sloppy. I’ve found it depends a lot on my goals for the play session and also how long I’ve been doing it.

It’s something I’ve looked at before, and while it looks like it could be a fun game, I don’t have that much time to spend grinding! It definitely appears to be one of the more fair f2p games out there though.

I don’t play the series, but they’re definitely very cheap right now!

Sounds like a really good deal! I’ve got all of the Witcher games, and they’re pretty good. I’m not really a Star Wars fan, otherwise I would pick up some of the games while they’re on that deep a discount! It makes me wonder how good some of them are for a non fan.

Ghost of Tsushima is a game I’m definitely keeping an eye on. I’ve unfortunately been disappointed with a lot of the recent PlayStation PC releases though, so I’m a bit wary. I’ll wait to see what kind of discounts show up in a year or so!

The Total War games look really interesting, I should give them a try. I play Civilization, Age of Empires, and Crusader Kings though, so it’s sometimes hard to fit a new series in. I do see that Atilla is the newest game without Denuvo though, so I might just grab it!

I do enjoy that type of game by spells, so I might have to get it the next time I’m in the mood for that! It does look interesting.

I used to play Terraria years ago, but it’s been a while! Satisfactory looks pretty interesting, but I’ve never played it.

My partner and I both have hundreds of hours in it, so that could be possible! Try not to have super high expectations for it before you start though, I wouldn’t want you to miss out on a fun game because fans hyped it beyond what it is.

That being said, both of us are pretty big fans of the game. We drove quite a distance to go to one of the Stardew Valley concerts, and it was really great. I’m not someone that likes crowds, but all the fans there were very friendly and it made for a great time.

Thanks for the recommendation! It’s not necessarily something that would jump out at me, but it seems people really like it.

I’m sure we will! I saw a list being created, so I’m sure there will be a few. I did give a warning about the infamous Steam backlog, but I don’t want to ruin the fun of a new device! So we’ll see what happens.

I’m somewhat the same. Really no interest in Dark Souls/Elden Ring or any of that, but Sekiro did catch my attention before. The difficulty is a turn off though. I often play games on hard difficulty, but I prefer it to be a choice, and to be able to turn it down if it’s too difficult.

I didn’t realize they had it ported to the Switch! I can definitely see it struggling to keep up with the game, but it sounds like it’s still at least playable.

I’m sure that’s nice! I’m guessing you probably can’t push the graphics as far without a discrete GPU in most of the machines, but there’s probably still decent performance.

Are there any games you’re planning to pick up during the Steam and GOG sales?
We've got two big sales going on, and I'm currently deciding what I would like to pick up. I'm planning to get Expeditions: Rome since it's 60% off, and I'm trying to decide if I want to finally get Terra Invicta. What patient games are the people here planning to pick up? Maybe I'll find a few that I "need" to try!
