What if gaming time is 4 hours

I remember not having kids…

Now gaming time, if I’m lucky, is like 30 mins a week. Much of that spent patching and remembering wtf I was doing last time I played.

Not counting playing with them, at least. Though they spend more time watching Minecraft videos than playing Minecraft, so there’s that.

No…but I am being hyperbolic. I definitely interface with more transmasc and nonbinary coders than I do with cisgender female coders. This may also be because, again, cultural reasons.

There certainly are more cisgender female coders, but they are still a minority group by a big amount, and they tend to not draw much attention to themselves.

This isn’t even about gaming, necessarily.

Girls who code are rare. There are probably more AFAB coders at my work than those who identify as female. And a hell of a lot more men.

And I’m in a progressive city in a progressive state.

I work in IT, and I think there is one woman out of 50 employees on my corner of the org chart, and that’s the CIO’s admin assistant.

I’m certain it’s culture, and it doesn’t just go for programming, it goes for almost all of STEM. There was a recent “Stuff You Should Know” episode about toy chemistry sets, and they made it a point to talk about the marketing, and how it always was with boys, for boys. My son, 8 year old kid, says “that’s just wrong! Girls can do all that stuff!”. He’s got it figured out.

You taking stock advice from Justin Timberlake or somethin’?

  • Take picture with digital camera.
  • Store as jpg
  • Convert jpeg to base64 string
  • Compress the string in a .zip split into 2.5KB chunks
  • Encode the .zips as a base64 strings
  • Render a QR code for each string.
  • Print out all QR codes on a sheet
  • Store in family photo album.

Most of that could be like 10 lines of python…

Thank you, subscribed to most, they seem right up my alley.

I was apprehensive about the first two because they sound (from their titles) like the type of conservative conspiracy theory my FIL talks about. He was talking to my BIL (FIL’s stepdaughters husband) about the collapse, and where to go yesterday. He decided Mexico since “they’re only doing all that shit in the industrialized countries” , and I couldn’t help but silently laugh that a.) he thinks Mexico isn’t an industrialized country, and b.) he would illegally immigrate there to avoid politicized chaos.

Oh man I used to love watching QI. Forgot all about that show (I’m in the colonies. The one that tossed out all that tea).

Fine. I finally installed f-droid, because while I don’t listen to a lot of podcasts, I am trying to listen to more, and YT Music is ass for finding new podcasts.

Please give me recommendations for more podcasts that may like based on what I got

Right?

Like, I get it Nintendo, you want money. That’s understandable.

Then let me buy the damn games. I’d love to be able to buy roms to run in an official emulator, or ideally any emulator.

Honestly at this point why even bother with DRM. The roms for classic systems are absurdly easy to get. Hell even switch roms. But Nintendo insists the only way to play retro games legitimately is to buy either a monthly subscription, or a copy of the rom bundled with the official emulator that can only be run on that specific generation console, or buy dedicated system for it.

And even then its only the games they put out on the system/marketplace/subscription service. A tiny fraction of the library.

It wouldn’t be Windows, it’d probably be a variant of Astra Linux.

The year of Linux may finally be among us.

I gotta say, I’ve distro hopped a lot over the years…finally caved to try EndeavorOS and it’s my new favorite, if only for the AUR.

My wife wanted me to buy her a pair of air pods.

I’m like, get a pair of headphones to last you more than a month, then we’ll talk.

I can’t tell you how many pairs of cheap earbuds we’ve gone through. Either lost or eaten (damn dog). Almost always just the right earbud. Never the left. I have so many lefts left.

Based upon how obsessed my 4yo was with Kirby and Mario and Smash last year, I wouldn’t be surprised.

I love all your replies.

You wouldn’t get these responses from stackoverflow.

This isn’t even a programming or development community…it’s a general interest one.

You didn’t even ask for help.
