Gonna throw a bit of advertising about Dinkum, for anyone that’d like to see a mix of Stardew (farming, tending to animals, socializing with people) with Animal Crossing (you set up where shops and houses will be, you can terraform the whole place, lots of shinies around the land to be dug up)
I couldn’t get into Dinkum. The early game is really poorly paced and a bit janky. Ended up deleting it after an hour. Could be one I come back to once it’s optimised a bit more but I wouldn’t really compare it positively with Stardew at the moment
I finally just started playing. I’m 50 hours in and nowhere near done with it. Don’t tell me there’s more coming!
There is probably even more comming in the current version for you. Stardew valley is the type of game where you watch a random YT video where someone shows off something you never knew was in the game, after you got 1000h clocked.
That guy is amazing
It blows my mind every time I see Stardew Valley. Singlehandedly wrote the story, characters, the music, effects, coded the game etc. Simply stunning.
Sure, but the storage chest was a poor example for progress.
We don’t deserve him. Thank you, Mr. Barone for all you have given us and more.
Indie devs:
AAA companies:
Don’t forget the mandatory apology JPEG on Xitter.
Which is repeated every 3 years when there’s some kind of outrage
“and we stopped caring about quality” good god that feels so true, it hurts
Really wish I had it in me to replay this game.
replay? you mean you finished it? Isn’t it open ended?
Technically yes, but at a certain point all you’re doing is tending your crops, which gets boring when you have nothing more to work towards.
Now there’s more to do, but since I did so much, I’m just burned out on the game, and can’t get back into it.
Heh, this describes me with Warframe. XD
May I suggest Stardew Valley Expanded?
Its a huge mod that basically ads a whole new entire game worth of content, on top of the base games content, that is seamlessly integrated into the base game.
May I suggest Longevity?
It adds taxes and market prices, thus bringing an element of complexity into the game that makes you think how to optimize your early growth and how to get the most out of your energy and money, turning the relaxing indie game about returning to nature into an optimization grindset nightmare that everyone but me hates.
I have enough real life stress to worry about without putting it in video game form ,lol
New maps? I found that I always gravitated towards one map as I disliked all the rest. Mostly just wanted a big open space to go crazy, not obstacles that I had to design around.
SVE adds maps to explore and characters to meet, much more than areas to develop and exploit.
it has a a couple new starter farm options, which are very nice imho. it also includes a big open space to the east of pelican town that you can use as a big honking farm area. last time i played I made it my tree farm. had a couple hundred of each tree type there.
You’re making it worse, not better lol. There’s too much to do, that’s why I’m not returning, adding more is not the solution.
you know theres no time limit right?
I mean, you get evaluated after 3 years, but thats not end game, and you can redo the evaluation at any time after it.
I’m aware of how the game works yes. Once I bought the golden clock, there was basically nothing to do on my farm except for planting on the first day of each season. Aside from that it’s fully automated. It just got boring, and it felt like the game was over, and I just can’t shake that feeling.
Bruh
I know… They added it all afterwards, when I already felt like the game was over, and despite there being lots to do now, I just can’t will myself back into the game.
This reminds me of Terraria where they claim a final update, but they just can’t stop adding new things. I love devs with this kind of passion.
Where’s the best place to catch up on the updates, haven’t read anything since the multiplayer update.
I just look at the update history on steam. I don’t necessarily go to other websites. Every update has been minor, but I still consider it. Maybe they just meant no more major updates, but even still, it’s impressive they have kept maintaining that game for over 10 years.
That’s pretty great. ConcernedApe is a prince!
wait theres gonna be another update? i thought 1.5 was final
He must have talked to the Terraria devs haha
He changed his mind
for the 10th time
Pray he does not change it again.
ConcernedApe thought so, too ;) He works on Stardew his whole game development career. It is difficult to stop trying to improve the game and let your baby go after so long.
1.6 has been worked on for a while. Small content update but is going to make modding easier or more robust. 🤞
i havent really been following the sv community for a while, but thats nice
Not a whole lot is official but that’s what I have gleaned from any announcement.
It looks like it’s gonna be one of the biggest updates so far. With new festivals, new dialogue options and so on.
I’ve been meaning to play it for a while but this major update may finally push me to just like it did with Cyberpunk
I’ve been playing and replaying it since its original PC-only release in 2016. I remember being so excited about a new game finally improving on thr Harvest Moon formula. I think it’s safe to say that today it has completely surpassed other games in the genre. The freedom and variety of tasks in the game has since enticed me towards further replays as well. It’s so inspiring how passionate Barone has been towards his creation in the long run too.
From what I’ve seen it seems a bit more targeted at teens and adults then kids and that’s kind of what I wanted Harvest Moon to be to begin with so I’m pretty excited to play it.
Also generally the added depth and how fleshed out it seems
It encapsulates some whimsy and magical elements which have always been underdeveloped in other similar games. Filled with mystery, easter eggs and constant progress and discovery. The relationship elements are a lot more mature than Harvest Moon as well. Deals with some of the grit and consequences of living in reality. All packaged together superbly.
i should try stardew valley tbh, it looks really good
You should!
i may consider buying it lol
Still no news about haunted chocolatier?
It would not be the first time that a second game from one successful developer will never come to life. I wish that I am wrong.
I too think he went back to Stardew Valley because he’s either burnt out, or doesn’t know where to take, Haunted Chocolatier.
He’s one dude.
For now.
But once my clones are complete…
I wish i could transfer my save file from my switch to my steam deck. I have the oled switch and i guess i need to mod chip it in order to access the file system.
